Jack Turner Trophy Update

The first semi-final resulted in Team 4 skipped by Jack Pearson beating Team 1 skipped by Malcolm Gauld by 11 shots to 6. Malcolm reports that the luck was not with him!

The second semi-final resulted in Team 6 skipped by Gerry McCormack beating Team 3 skipped by Bill Chalmers by 8 shots to 4. Bill got off to a good start, then Gerry got going and didn't relent thereafter.

The Final is on Monday 6th April, 6.00pm at Greenacres.

Skips are responsible for making sure they have a full team out on the night. If the final is peeled after the last end, determined by the bell, the skips will each draw a shot to the head, sweeping your own stone is allowed but not that of your opponent. Nearest the middle wins.

Arthur Frame Final

Congratulations to John Fingland (Skip), Graeme Nicolson (Third), Mark Lombardi (Second) and Drew Fulton (Lead) on beating Glasgow Ladies 10-4 last night at Braehead to win the Final of the Arthur Frame Trophy.
Glasgow Ladies opened with a single on the first end, being short with a draw for two. Drystanes replied with a three in the second end following a massive pick-up on Glasgow Ladies attempt to draw behind cover with their final stone. the match swung on the third end. the head was building well for Glasgow Ladies, lying three (or maybe four) behind cover, Drystanes having missed a couple of take-outs when Glasgow Ladies third left her second stone open and level with the button, inviting John to play a double take-out, which he did to perfection, removing the stone on the button and lying in its place virtually completely buried. Glasgow Ladies could not remove this stone so Drystanes stole for 4-1 lead after three ends. Drystanes stole a further shot in the fourth, when the final Glasgow Ladies stone was marginally over-swept, and another three in the fifth to lead 8-1. a lot of stones built up at the front of the sixth end, with Glasgow Ladies lying one & buried. however there was a tempting plant to remove it and finish the game. John went for it but his stone drew slightly too far chipping in a second Glasgow Ladies stone and allowing them an easy draw for three. Normal service was resumed in the seventh end with Drystanes soon having a stone buried in the middle of the house. Glasgow Ladies couldn't get to this stone and the game was conceded with Drystanes lying two and their final stone still to play.
If truth be told, it wasn't Glasgow Ladies night! They suffered the pick-ups on crucial shots and all the 'rubs' seemed to go Drystanes way.
The Arthur Frame Trophy was later presented to Drystanes by Glasgow Province President Ken McCall (poetic justice?)
Drystanes now go on to represent Glasgow Province in the Scottish Province Championship at Greenacres in November.

Shanter Trophy

The Shanter Trophy (well not actually the Shanter Trophy, it had gone walkabout) was presented to Drystanes at the Glasgow Province AGM last night . Two members of the winning team, Steven Harte and John Fingland were on hand to receive the trophy from President Ken McCall. The Trophy pictured is in fact the Glenalmond Trophy. the Shanter Trophy was later located in the trophy case at Braehead and will be presented at the Drystanes AGM and the end of April.

Arthur Frame Trophy

Last night, Drystanes beat Carmunnock & Rutherglen 7-5 in the semi-final of the Arthur Frame and now meet Glasgow Ladies in the final next Wednesday. the game starts at 5.30pm, with Glasgow Province AGM following on immediately after the completion of the game.
John Fingland reports that it was a close game. Drew Fulton reports that John played a blinder, to secure victory, he played yet another miraculous shot in the last and Ken Horton fell short with his last.
Please come along to support Drystanes if you are not otherwise occupied that evening.

Fulton Trophy (Final)

The Fulton Trophy was completed tonight. The final table can be seen here.
A runaway victory for Team A comprising John Fingland (Skip), Steven Harte (Third), Jack Pearson (Second) and Douglas Dewar (Lead) with 23 points.
Runners-up, with 17 points, are Team B comprising Clarke Perry (Skip), Andrew Henderson (Third), Colin Keir (Second) and Dhru Prakash (Lead).
Congratulations to Team A (and well done to the Selection Committee)
