Welcome to Drystanes Curling Club
Drystanes Curling Club was founded in 1966 by the (abandoned?) husbands of The October Ladies Curling Club. We currently have around 30 members and curl at Greenacres, mainly Mondays to Thursdays in the evening. The club changed from being a male only club to a mixed club in 2016.
We run two main competitions during the season. In our main competition, The Ian Fulton Trophy, skips and thirds rotate after the first round robin, likewise leads and seconds. The other competition is The Jack Turner Trophy when regular skips and thirds from the Fulton Trophy play at lead and second with the other positions moving up. This approach gives everyone an opportunity play in a variety of positions and to progress up the team on merit.
Our season starts with an Opening Bonspiel in late September. We also have a Christmas Bonspiel with prizes and dinner after the game. There are also Points and Pairs competitions during the season. We enter teams into several RCCC Province competitions. Friendlies are played against a number of other clubs, sometimes with a meal after the games. Whilst these games are all sociable occasions, the curling is still taken quite seriously.
We are encouraging young players to join Drystanes by offering to pay the annual membership subscriptions to Greenacres Ice Rinks. This offer is open to members under the age of 23 (as at the date of our AGM at end of April) provided that they are prepared to commit to being a regular curler for the forthcoming season, and not just sit on the reserve list.
We are always interested in recruiting new members, whether they are complete novices or very experienced curlers, or somewhere in between. Every encouragement is available to help novice curlers.
If you are interested in joining or have any questions about Drystanes, please contact us here.
